Registration for the 2024 AWL Essay Writing Competition Opens July 15!
Join the 2024 AWL Essay Writing Competition for the opportunity to earn recognition for your writing. You may submit original pieces in up to two categories: creative nonfiction; poetry; personal narrative; mini memoir; short story; critical essay; and research essay. Submissions are separated according to the age of the author at time of submission. The junior competition is open to students aged 12-14, and the senior competition is open to students aged 15-18. Participants must be students who are currently enrolled in accredited middle or high schools located in the United States. AWL programs are open to all students without regard to race, sex, religion, physical and mental abilities or disabilities, economic status, or sexual orientation. Please contact us should you require accommodations for special needs. Submissions must be 100% original; submissions that have been created using AI tools or that are found to contain more than 10% of plagiarized material will be disqualified. Judges may choose to disqualify submissions they deem offensive due to inappropriate language or content including but not limited to vulgar language, profanity, hate speech, or excessive violence. Registrations and submissions must be received by 8:00 pm ET on September 1, 2024.
